Suzanna Austin

Development Manager, FSB

I joined Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in January 2023 as the Development Manager for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, bringing over 26 years of experience across multiple sectors. My career began in the corporate world, later transitioning to managing and growing a family business, before making significant contributions to policy and campaigns for a major national political party. These roles have given me a strong foundation in understanding the diverse needs of businesses, from startups to multinationals.

With an academic background in psycho-social and social sciences, I’ve developed a deep insight into the complexities today’s businesses face. My commitment to sustainability and social equity is evident in initiatives such as introducing a slow fashion concept at London Fashion Week in 1995 and being the first in the sector to achieve National Living Wage certification for my own business in 2014.  My work in policy reform was recognized when I was a finalist for the 2018 Patsy Carlton Award.

In my role on the South Midlands Business Board, I will continue engaging with local businesses and stakeholders to advocate for small business concerns, ensuring a range of voices are heard. My focus will remain on fostering sustainable growth and resilience across the region.
